As I sit down to write my first blog I struggle on where I should begin. After filtering through a million ideas in my brain I decided to start simple – at the beginning. Basically, how I start each day. About two months ago I came across an article that talked about how the person being interviewed started each day out with a warm water and lemon. I cannot for the life of me remember who I was reading about, but that one piece resonated with me. My usual routine begins with coffee – which I love. So I woke up the next morning and heated up some water cut a lemon, squeezed it into my mug, poured in the warm water, and drank it. I proceeded to make my coffee. Normally, I would have devoured at least two cups of coffee that day, but I only had one! Which was unheard of in my life thus far… After finishing the water with lemon it seemed to satisfy my need for that warm beverage in the morning.
I continued on like this for about a week until the day I decided to give up coffee completely. If you had asked me to do this 2 weeks prior I would have thought you were crazy. Give up my warm flavorful deliciousness of coffee for warm lemon and water – yeah right. Well here I am 2 months later, no coffee anymore and lemon water every day.
There are tons of health benefits, which I will list, but from personal experience, I noticed many immediately. The lemon water seemed to “flush” my system if you know what I mean. I often struggle with regularity and would drink coffee to help things get moving. This seemed to do the trick with no problem. I also felt better, my anxiety went away with no jittery feelings and anxiousness I would get with coffee. It has truly been great, and I still have that warm mug in my hand to start my day.
How to make:
Fill a mug with warm water, not super hot.
Using fresh organic lemons, squeeze a half of lemon into the glass.
You can also add ginger root or cayenne for more flavor.
