As a wife and working mother of three taking time out for myself would always go on the back burner. Most moms tend to feel guilty when they walk out of the door and leave their family behind. It wasn’t up until recently that I realized being a “good” mom doesn’t mean never leaving my children to do something for myself. It is actually the opposite.
In order for me to be the best mom I can be taking time for myself is necessary. The other part of it was defining what time for myself really meant. It’s not a trip to Wegmans with our kids or working out or running errands. Time for myself is something that allows me to be with just myself and no other”to dos”. It’s going for a pedicure, taking a long walk, meeting friends for lunch, or anything that allows me time for me and only me. Doing this brings me peace of mind and a sense of calmness.
That is what allows patience and focus on my children and family when I am with them. Without time for myself, I get resentful and frustrated. It’s a snowball effect that eventually makes me feel like a crazy person who has no time to get anything done and prohibits me to enjoy any task.
So my advice to all moms (and dads) is to try and give yourself a daily time to just focus on yourself and do something you enjoy. Although daily isn’t always possible, schedule something weekly. This gives you something to look forward to. And those moments with your family become that much more meaningful and enjoyable.
Just when I thought I had tried every diet out there a new one pops up, whether it’s Paleo, gluten free or Atkins. All of those”diets” usually do aid in weight loss- however, they are not sustainable. I mean really, do you think eating just cabbage soup and bananas for the rest of your life is possible?! Let me tell you from experience it’s not! The first 3 letters say it…DIE…
Your body needs nutrients from a variety of foods. When you are trying to lose weight, restrictions are definitely going to come into play, ex. less sugar, alcohol, and carbs.
But to keep the weight off, you really need to commit to lifestyle- one that is manageable and realistic. IF you are a very social person, dessert is going to be a part of your life as well as possibly alcohol and delicious dips. If you completely restrict yourself from these indulgences you will not succeed. In the beginning of a weight loss journey, you really need to look at what will be practical in your life. You need to look at the foods you love and find a way to incorporate them in moderation. A diet is a set-up for failure. A lifestyle change is a set up for success.
As I sit down to write my first blog I struggle on where I should begin. After filtering through a million ideas in my brain I decided to start simple – at the beginning. Basically, how I start each day. About two months ago I came across an article that talked about how the person being interviewed started each day out with a warm water and lemon. I cannot for the life of me remember who I was reading about, but that one piece resonated with me. My usual routine begins with coffee – which I love. So I woke up the next morning and heated up some water cut a lemon, squeezed it into my mug, poured in the warm water, and drank it. I proceeded to make my coffee. Normally, I would have devoured at least two cups of coffee that day, but I only had one! Which was unheard of in my life thus far… After finishing the water with lemon it seemed to satisfy my need for that warm beverage in the morning.
I continued on like this for about a week until the day I decided to give up coffee completely. If you had asked me to do this 2 weeks prior I would have thought you were crazy. Give up my warm flavorful deliciousness of coffee for warm lemon and water – yeah right. Well here I am 2 months later, no coffee anymore and lemon water every day.
There are tons of health benefits, which I will list, but from personal experience, I noticed many immediately. The lemon water seemed to “flush” my system if you know what I mean. I often struggle with regularity and would drink coffee to help things get moving. This seemed to do the trick with no problem. I also felt better, my anxiety went away with no jittery feelings and anxiousness I would get with coffee. It has truly been great, and I still have that warm mug in my hand to start my day.
How to make:
Fill a mug with warm water, not super hot.
Using fresh organic lemons, squeeze a half of lemon into the glass.
You can also add ginger root or cayenne for more flavor.

Through my studies at IIN I have met so many amazing people. One of the people I met is a consultant for a company called Beautycounter. With everything I am learning in IIN, I have realized I was only focusing on what I put into my body.
I wasn’t taking the time to think about what I was putting onto my skin. Our skin is our biggest organ, anything that we put on it is going directly into our bodies.
After talking to my friend, she really opened my eyes to what we expose our skin to. She told me to go online and check out Beautycounter’s mission and website. After reading through the website and information, immediately, I was on board. I wanted to get all these crazy facts out to everyone that I knew and loved. So fast forward to today.
I am now here to say, I too am a Beautycounter consultant and customer. I love their products and sharing their mission. I will be doing specific product reviews throughout my blog so you can become more familiar with the mission and the products of Beautycounter. Below is Beautycounter’s mission and some eye-opening statistics.
